Our 1850's farmhouse was built by Thomas Harlow, and  passed down to his son Wally.  They used to carry water up the hill from the river and it is quite a hike!  We still find signs that the Harlow family was there and it gives us a warm, connected feeling.   We now have running water at the farm for which I am thankful for each and every day! The Hallett family has owned this property since 1962 and we learned farming basics from our Grandpa Hallett.  

Hallett Farm is a one, 66 year old woman, show.  After two different breast cancer diagnoses, I decided to grow as much of my own food as possible to control what food goes into my body.  I want to know that my food most definitely has NO CHEMICALS and is as fresh and nutritious as it can be.  I call my food operation my "Farmacy" because fresh, wholesome food is so important to our good health.  Hand picking problematic insects off my crops daily  is very time consuming, but worth it!  After using the produce I grow for my own family and preserving it, I offer produce for sale to my community so that other's can enjoy chemical free fresh produce as well.   I also donate produce to the local food pantry.    Field farming is year round physical work, but the harvest for most of it is from July through October.  

The microgreens portion of my "Farmacy" is grown hydroponically, year round.   These delicious greens,  are also grown without chemicals, and are little powerhouses of concentrated nutrition!  Micro broccoli, for example, is 40% more nutritious ounce for ounce from its adult counter part.   

Soap making is not as physical as farming and is a welcome change to digging in the dirt.   I make small batch soap with loofa gourd in it for gardeners, like myself, to scrub dirty hands and feet.  Soap making has morphed to other bath & body products, all of which are tested out by friends and family.  I  make what I personally LOVE to use on my own skin.  I mostly use essential oils to scent the products (I have a severe allergy to many artificial scents, so I am limited on what scents I can use) and I use only sustainable palm oil (to be kind to our earth).
